Iraqi security officials say at least 11 people have been killed in separate attacks across the Baghdad area.

The officials say a car bomb killed six people south of the capital in the single bloodiest attack Wednesday. They say the bomb wounded at least 25 others when it exploded in a crowded market in Mahmudiyah.

In Baghdad, officials say two mortar rounds exploded near the Health Ministry, killing three people and wounding at least five others.

Two more people were reported killed when a roadside bomb exploded south of Baghdad in Iskandariya.

Meanwhile, the U.S. military says coalition forces killed 14 suspected insurgents and detained 48 more in a pair of raids that began Tuesday.

In a separate incident, U.S. officials said one coalition soldier was killed and three U.S. soldiers were wounded in an attack in Kirkuk province Tuesday.

The U.S. military also says a U.S. Marine died Wednesday from wounds sustained while operating in Al Anbar province, west of Baghdad.
